By affordable I specifically mean the total cost per serving should be roughly 1$ per serving of 20-25 grams of protein. Pictured here is a whey protein and collagen peptide that each costs about 1$ per serving. 1 serving of each provides 45 grams of protein for only 2$ which is comparable if not cheaper compared to most flavored protein powders. For extra protein kick, I use milk and sometimes I’ll add PB fit peanut butter powder.

By high quality I mean a minimal amount of pure ingredients. In this case it is simply whey protein concentrate (with sunflower lecithin for mixability) and hydrolyzed collagen with hyaluronic acid. Not only is it unflavored, but it has no added sugar or artificial sweeteners making it a very keto friendly option with only 7 grams of carbs per 45 gram of protein serving.

Since it is unflavored, I am able to flavor it myself with other pure ingredients like cacao powder, matcha powder, instant coffee, cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla extract, maple syrup and so many other options. you can create your own favorite flavor protein powder.

One downside to this approach is the extra time it takes to get all the ingredients and to mix them. But I think it’s worth the effort and you can always premix your favorite combinations in bulk. Another downside, it is not sweet and does not taste as great as sweetened. But you can always your own sweetener of choice as you desire. But since I was looking for lowest carb options, I rely on the whey powder and milk to provide enough sweetness. Once I cut out sugar, things like milk and vegetables began to taste sweeter as I lost my tolerance to sugar.
